EFFECT OF GUINEA GRASS (Panicum maximum) PRODUCED USING COW DUNG AND NPK FERTILIZER ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND HAEMATOLOGY OF RED SOKOTO BUCK

This experiment was carried out at the Livestock Teaching and Research Farm of the Department of Animal Science, Federal University Dutsin-Ma. The feeding trial was carried out using 15 Red Sokoto bucks, allotted into three treatment of five replicates in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The feeding trial lasted for 84
days. Data obtained were analyzed using General Linear Model of SAS. The results indicated that final weight and weight gain were significantly (P<0.05) affected by different types of Panicum Maximum supplementation. However, initial weight, feed intake and feed conversion ratio were not significantly (P>0.05) affected.
Hemoglobin and white blood cells were significantly (P<0.05) affected by the dietary treatments. Combined supplementation of Panicum maximum produced using cow dung and inorganic fertilizer have profound effect on growth Performance, and hematological profile of Red Sokoto Bucks.
