Abstract

The study was conducted to evaluate the performance of Yankasa rams fed basal Digitaria smutsii hay supplemented with different protein sources. Sixteen (16) growing Yankasa rams with average live weight of 24.40±0.01kg were allotted to four (4) dietary treatments as diet without supplementation, diet supplemented

with cotton seed cake, groundnut haulms, cowpea husk designated as T1 (control), T2, T3, and T4, respectively. The parameters monitored includes feed intake (FI), live weight gain/kg/ (LWG), weight gain (WG), average daily gain (ADG), Feed efficiency (FE) and feed cost. The trial was designated in a completely randomized

design (CRD), replicated (4) times. The results of growth performance showed that there were significant (P<0.05) differences in the total weight gain (TWG) and average daily gain (ADG), basal feed intake (BFI) and total feed intake (TFI) across treatments.
