In the present work, the lethal dose of Carbendazim on the well cultured, economically important African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) was determined. The Lorke's (1983) method was adapted for the investigation of the acute toxicity in the fish in order to estimate on the Lethal Dose. After exposure to concentrations of Carbendazim (0, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5 and 15 mg/l), the highest concentration which gave no mortality and the lowest concentration which produced mortality was determined after 96 hours. The LD,, of 6.124 mg/L was computed using Lorke,s (1993) method. This is lower than the WHO- determined LD50 of Benomyl, the carbendazim derivative, in Channel catfish. The result gotten from this study can be used as baseline guide for the study of acute and chronic toxicity of sub-lethal and lethal concentrations of carbendazim in African catfish especially in the tropical environment
