STUDY OF CONSUMERS PREFERENCE FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF MEAT IN MAIGATARI INTERNATIONAL MARKET, MAIGATARI LOCAL GOVERNMENT, JIGAWA STATE, NIGERIA.

Research was conducted to evaluate consumers preference on different types of meat in Maigatari international market, Maigatari Local Government area Jigawa State, Nigeria. One hundred (100) structural questionnaires were administered to obtained background information of the respondents on the use of meat and its Preference.27% aged below 30 years, 30% represents 30-45, 21% represents 46-60years, 16% represents 61-75 years, only 6% of respondents were above 75 age groups. 48% of the respondents were married, 29% were single, 13% were divorced only 10% of the respondents were widowed. Majority of the respondents were males with 57%. 80% were Muslims, 16% Christians and 4% pagan. Majority of the respondents were Hausa with 60% only 40% were Fulani. 6-10 house hold were highest with 41%, 8% has the least house hold size in >16. Educational background 30, 21, 20, 14, and 5%, have acquired Qur’anic, primary, secondary, tertiary, adult
education respectively, only 9% of the respondents were not acquire education at all.83% consumed meat, only 17% do not consumed meat at all. On type of meat consume, beef has 21% then chicken and fish with 18%, goat 15%, camel 12%, followed by sheep with 9%, bush meat and other meats with least respondents. Majority of the respondent has no allergic to all type of meat with 67% ,18% has meat allergic,15% fish allergic. Meat recipe (tsire) were most preferred then all type of meat with
40% of the respondents. The data were analyzed using simple percentage.
