Abstract

Metabolic, productive, reproductive, health and adaptability status of animals can be evaluated using haematological assay. This research studied the haematology of Bunaji and Muturu cattle. A total of 480 cattle comprising 240 cattle of each breed of equal number of either gender of cattle in each were used. The study was set in a completely randomized design (CRD). Blood parameters analyzed were Packed Cell Volume (PCV), Haemoglobin (Hb), Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC), Red Blood Cell Count (RBC), Lymphocyte, Granulocyte, Sodium (Na), Calcium (Ca), Phosphorus (P), Creatinine, Glucose, Total Protein (TP), Cholesterols, Aspartate Transferase (AST), Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), γ-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT). It was observed that apart from MCHC and granulocyte, parameters of whole blood count were significantly (p<0.05) higher in Muturu than Bunaji. Serum analysis showed that Na, Ca, P, Creatinine, ALP and globulin were significantly (p<0.05) higher in Bunaji while Mg, triglycerides, VLDL, ALT, GGT, albumin and albumin to globulin ratio presented higher (p<0.05) mean values in the Muturu cattle. The finding of this study showed that haematological parameter varied with breed
