PY - 2024/07/20 Y2 - 2026/09/25 TI - INFLUENCE OF TETRAPLEURA TETRAPTERA AS ADDITIVE ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF BROILER CHICKENS JF - Nigerian Journal of Animal Production JA - NJAP VL - IS - SE - Articles DO - 10.51791/njap.vi.6664 UR - https://mail.njap.org.ng/index.php/njap/article/view/6664 SP - 1155 - 1158 AB -
This study was conducted to assess the influence of dietary inclusion of Tetrapleura tetraptera in drinking water on growth performance of broiler chicken. A total of Two-hundred-day old broiler chicks were used. There were five (5) dietary treatments. TI 0.00g/litre (control)contained no Tetrapleura tetraptera,T2-T5contained 0.25g/litres,0.50g/litres,0.75g/litres and 1.00g/litres of Tetrapleura tetraptera respectively. Each treatment was replicated four (4) times with each replicate having 10birds in a complete randomized design (CRD). Feed and water were given ad libitum for the duration of the experiment and the experiment lasted for 7weeks. Results revealed that feed intake of birds on diet 3 (67.79g/bird/day) and diet 4 (66.41g/bird/day) were similar (P>0.05) statistically,. Similarly, weight gains of birds on diet 3 (29.48g/bird), diet 4 (26.39g/bird) and diet 5 (26.97g/bird) were similar (P> 0.05) statistically, diet 1 (25.58g/bird), diet 2 (24.60g/bird), diet 4 (26.39g/bird) and diet 5 (26.97g/bird) were also similar (P> 0.05) statistically but bird on diet 3 (29.48g/bird) had a higher weight gain which resulted in a significantly higher final body weight.. The overall result shows that birds on diet 3 (0.50g/litres of Tetrapleura tetraptera) had significantly superior body weight gain and final body weight than birds on diet 1 (0.00g/litre), diet 2 (0.25g/litres), diet 4 (0.75g/litres) and diet 5 (1.00g/litre) of Tetrapleura tetraptera respectively. The study could be concluded that 0.50g/litres of Tetrapleura tetraptera in drinking water could be used to improve the growth performance to produce antibiotics residues free chicken meat.
ER -
